Description

Programme:

Maturing your organisation’s approach to safety

Published by the Health Foundation in 2013, the report on the Measurement and Monitoring of Safety, by Prof Charles Vincent, Jane Carthey and Susan Burnett, proposes a framework that widens our focus on patient safety and emphasises both the need and opportunities for using more proactive approaches. Jane will introduce you to the five key dimensions of the framework.

Jane Carthey, Human Factors and Patient Safety Specialist

Group work: Broadening our perspective on harm

What do we mean by ‘harm’? Using small group discussions, we will explore the wider perspective on harm proposed in the report and framework. You will have the opportunity to consider different types of harm and assess where you focus most in your current safety measurement and monitoring.

Sarah Garrett, Consultant in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

Group work: Gillian’s story

Using a drama-documentary film, which tells the story of one family’s experience of harm, we will use the different ‘lenses’ of the other four dimensions in the Measurement and Monitoring of Safety framework to explore what happened and what could have been different.
